What Do I Do?

To paraphrase Napoleon, “never interrupt your subscribers while they are making a mistake”, and in that spirit, whatever you came to this page searching for, I can assure you, you’re in the right place. Search no further, you’ve found it.

How to Support Me

Below, I’ll detail the benefits paid subscribers get access to, but first, I want to make it clear that my intention is to always keep my articles free, not hidden behind a paywall. In the future, if my subscriber base grows sufficiently, I may move to a model where my 10 most recent posts are free to everyone and the rest are archived for paid subscribers. However, for now, I aim for all of my posts to be free to everyone.

As such, if, completely understandably, you don’t feel comfortable or just aren’t in a position to support me financially, the best thing you could possibly do to support me is to share my work around with others and help me to continue growing: whether that’s friends and family, teammates at your local club, or in your obscure cricketing discord server, I cannot emphasise how helpful every single share is.

If you do want to support me financially, you can do so either through a paid Substack subscription or a one-off or recurring contribution at Buy Me A Coffee by clicking the buttons below. I set the price for a monthly subscription ($5 AUD) as low as the app would allow me to, and you get a discount equivalent to two free months ($40) for buying an annual subscription.

Why Subscribe?

Above all, by subscribing, you are directly supporting my ability to continue creating this work. I also work full-time, and while I absolutely adore writing these articles, it can be time-consuming. Paying to subscribe helps me continue to justify allocating that time in the face of objectively more pressing priorities. In doing so, you will get my eternal, undying gratitude, (platonic) love, and anything else I can reasonably provide.

If you do choose to support me financially, I would like to be transparent about the kinds of things I plan to put the money towards. All contributions will be put towards my ability to continue growing, improving, and producing this blog, which may include things like:

  • Purchasing an annual CricketArchive subscription (valued at ~$105 AUD) to allow me to dive even deeper into older, more obscure stats and matches.

  • Purchasing an NV Play subscription to allow me to gain access to ball-by-ball replays and other useful analytics tools.

  • Purchasing subscriptions to other, similar cricket analytics tools.

  • Purchasing a Canva Pro subscription (valued at $165 AUD annually) to expand my ability to produce polished graphics and DataViz within my articles.

  • Purchasing a Grammarly Pro subscription to allow me to continue producing the highest-quality, error-free work at scale.

  • Purchasing subscriptions to other prominent cricketing creators’ Patreons (i.e. The Final Word, Good Areas, or The Grade Cricketer) for inspiration, to support their work, and to join their discord servers.

  • Purchasing a dedicated domain name to allow me to grow my subscriber and follower base outside of SubStack.

  • Further down the line, I will potentially purchase video editing tools to expand my output into video creation, too.

As my subscriber base grows, I may switch to a model whereby only paid subscribers can comment on posts, or where paid subscribers have access to my entire archive of posts, but free subscribers can only access the most recent 10. If this happens, I will be sure to communicate the change. For now, though, happy subscribing!

Features, news, reactions, and analysis on New Zealand Cricket. If it pertains to the Black Caps, I probably write about it.

Just another cricket tragic. Mainly writing about New Zealand cricket, but broaching into cricket more broadly too.
